The Strand Arcade is a historic and iconic shopping arcade located in the heart of Sydney’s central business district (CBD) easily accessible via two main entrances on Pitt Street Mall and George Street.
Built in 1891, the Strand Arcade is a heritage-listed Victorian-style retail arcade. It was designed by John B. Spencer and is noted for its classic revival style, making it one of the finest examples of shopping arcades from the Victorian period in Sydney. It’s the only remaining arcade of its kind in the city, preserving its original form with cedar staircases, tiled floors, cast iron balusters, and a prominent tinted glass roof to reduce glare.
The arcade is known for its boutique shopping experience and is home to over 65 specialty stores, featuring a mix of well-known designer labels, jewellers, cafes, and unique gift shops. Long-standing institutions like The Nut Shop, Strand Hatters, Raphael Jewellers, and Victoria & Albert Antiques have been trading there for decades, contributing to its charm and historical significance.
